Hal Starnes III Receives Moving-Up Day Award from St. Lawrence University

Hal F. Starnes III of Saratoga Springs received an award at St. Lawrence University's Moving-Up Day ceremony, which was held on April 25 in Canton, New York.

Starnes III is a member of the Class of 2016 and is majoring in biology. Starnes III graduated from Saratoga Springs Senior High School. Starnes III was presented with the Priest Scholarship Prize, which acknowledges the sophomore man with the highest academic record during his first year.

Moving-Up Day celebrates student achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. It is a campus tradition dating from 1869, when it began as "Tree Holiday," to add trees to the campus landscape. In more recent times, the day evolved into an occasion for the recognition of student achievement and a symbolic "moving-up" of students to chapel pews vacated by students a year ahead of them.
