Hal Starnes III of Saratoga Springs Awarded St. Lawrence University Fellowship

Hal F. Starnes III of Saratoga Springs has been awarded a St. Lawrence University Fellowship for a summer 2015 research project.

Starnes III is a member of the Class of 2016 and is majoring in biology. Fletcher Starnes III received the Donald K. Rose University Fellows Endowment and Daniel F. '65 and Ann H. Sullivan Endowment for Student/Faculty Research. Her project is titled "Assessing the Potential of Cerium Oxide Nanoparticles as a Treatment for Neurodegenerative Diseases." She will be mentored by Ana Estevez, assistant professor of biology and psychology. Starnes III attended Saratoga Springs Senior High School.

The St. Lawrence University Fellows program aims to provide new opportunities for student intellectual growth. The program promotes close student-faculty collaboration and enables students to begin their academic research, laying the foundation for integrative, credit-bearing activity during the next academic year. Students awarded a University Fellowship will work with a faculty mentor and receive a stipend and housing allowance during the summer session.
