2014 May 14

Kelsey L. Hatch of Grafton received an award at St. Lawrence University's Moving-Up Day ceremony, which was held on April 26 in Canton, N.Y. Hatch is majoring in English. A member of the Class of 2015 at St. Lawrence, Hatch graduated from Pomfret School.

Hatch was presented with the Clayton V. Fowler Art History Writing Awards, which is awarded to the authors of outstanding papers written in the history of art.

Moving-Up Day celebrates student achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. It is a campus tradition dating from 1869, when it began as "Tree Holiday," to add trees to the campus landscape. In more recent times, the day evolved into an occasion for the recognition of student achievement and a symbolic "moving-up" of students to chapel pews vacated by students a year ahead of them.
