Ye "Amy" Yao of Niskayuna Receives Moving-Up Day Award at St. Lawrence University

Ye "Amy" Yao of Niskayuna received an award at St. Lawrence University's Moving-Up Day ceremony, which was held on April 26 in Canton, N.Y. Yao is majoring in biology. A member of the Class of 2014 at St. Lawrence, Yao graduated from Niskayuna High School.

Yao was presented with the Lola D. and Bernard R. Norris Prize, which is given to a senior who meets the requirements of need and merit and will be entering medical school the following year. This fund was created by Evan Norris ’62, M.D., and Jay Norris ’59, M.D., in honor of their parents, Lola D. and the late Bernard R. Norris.

Moving-Up Day celebrates student achievements in academics and co-curricular activities. It is a campus tradition dating from 1869, when it began as "Tree Holiday," to add trees to the campus landscape. In more recent times, the day evolved into an occasion for the recognition of student achievement and a symbolic "moving-up" of students to chapel pews vacated by students a year ahead of them.
