As a researcher in St. Lawrence's Fellowship program, Ruiqi Yang '23 spent eight weeks immersed in data about a pressing issue in his home country-the housing market. Under the guidance of his faculty mentor, he discovered a path for his academic future and the power of learning to pivot when conducting research.

For Emilia Verdai-Davidson '23, meeting friendly cows, tending to verdant garden beds, and enjoying freshly harvested produce were only a few perks of their summer internships at the St. Lawrence County Cornell Cooperative Extension. As she dug into her passion for sustainable agriculture, she also fostered a deep understanding of the North Country community and personal career goals.

While navigating Shakespearean literary plots and government structures with her faculty mentor this summer, Sam Cohen '23 discovered connections between power, politics, and the Plebeians. She also gained a new perspective on how exploring the past can offer a critical view of the present.

Nadiana Acevedo '24 isn't afraid of a challenge. When she set out to investigate the effects of an anti-cancer drug this summer, she discovered that sometimes the best learning experiences can come from trial and error.

Charles Shaw spent his first summer after graduating embedded in the small business economy of St. Lawrence County-a place he's grown to call home over the past four years. He gained a deeper understanding of the area while exploring recreation areas, updating online information for tourists, working on resident recruitment strategies, and more.

Mikayla Quinn '24 has been an artist all her life. Immersed in the rich cultural heritage of the North Country during her internship at the SLC Arts, she envisioned a career path that connects her academic pursuits, desire to help others, and her creative spirit.
